Making Money Online is not for everyone, I think

I am one disgruntled mentor.
I remember not too long ago there’s this one friend of mine (a lady) and she’s one of many who asked me how I make a living online and how I do it. I told her that she can make money online through freelancing and internet marketing. Hence, her interest of venturing into it have bloomed and I gladly showed her the ways. She even left her regular job(as school teacher) and I even willingly purchased her own domain.
She thinks it would be that easy as she thinks. I thought I could mold her up into one fine internet marketer. Boy..was I wrong.
She’s not even internet savvy…she hates hearing words such as Web 2.0, RSS, SEO and many others. There’s never a time that she wouldn’t whine on every lesson I give to her. She never runs out of excuses whenever I get pissed because of her whining (“I’m not whining. I’m just speaking my heart out. But it doesn’t mean I’m not interested.”—yeah fuck that).
And then it happened.
Just a year after patiently molding her into an internet marketer, she eventually gave up—she went back to her regular teaching job as if nothing happened. The PDF ebooks that I gave to her, the tips and ideas…sadly they were all gone into waste.
And because of that, I have developed a phobia of dreading to hear people asking me how I make money online.
You see guys, making money online is not as easy as you think. You aspiration of being your own boss is not even enough. (Read my other article about You are not yet ready to make money online)
Making money online requires more than interest and passion to learn how things work. Being internet savvy and embracing the power of internet are just some of the pre-requisites required before you enter the warp of making money online.
And guys, don’t expect me to spoon-feed you. I have devoured years just mastering this field. In fact up until now it is still an on-going process. There will never be a some sort of graduation to this and the out-of-the-box thinking will never end. Internet Marketing is not like a business – it IS a business. Money goes in, money comes out. You must treat it as a business, and tend to it as such. This requires a little capital, a willingness to learn, and guts. Knowledge greatly reduces the risks, for if you know what you are doing, then it isn’t much of a gamble anymore. Whoever heard of a successful Internet Marketer who skyrocketed to success with little knowledge of how the whole thing works? Ridiculous isn’t it? Let’s be completely honest here. Internet Marketing, or any business for that matter, requires hard work. You must learn the basics, find out how to get things to work for you, and take care of it on a daily basis until it is finally ready to run by itself.

Wicked post. Just subscribed to you.
Ouch man… 1 year and boom. It’s amazing she stayed for a year, i gave up mentoring people because they would just not turn up, even though they said they were amazed at what i taught them in one day.
If i ever mentor people again i will set a high price so they wont want to just not turn up.
Btw travs, your blackhat shirts are in my sig now. And forever over at blackhatworld
sweet man! big thanks!
Yup,
Freelancing is just over-rated. It’s harder than they think it is. Skills are not enough and you’ll never stop learning until you’ll easily giveup due to frustration. However, it pays the bills better than your regular day-job.
Musta bro. Hope kilala mopa ako. =)
I really do appreciate your situation, I once taught some people to blog but don’t really long last. And you very very right that earning online is easy as I know it was so difficult. Right now, the problem of my adsense campaign was so bragging me but I still continue to experiments it.
… what works to us might not work to them.. simple as that. atleast you’ve done your part to share them the opportunity and show them the way how to do it.
I’ve seen a lot of newcomers experiencing the same way. Most gave up easily. Why? lack of motivation and over expectation.
